Among Us Hats: How To Download Hats + Interesting Facts About Among Us

Among Us Hats are a type of cosmetic that can be worn by characters in Among Us. Among Us Hats cover the upper half of the body in a complementary manner. The possibilities to customize your character are endless and this is especially noticeable in the hats. On Steam you have to buy them, but in the mobile version they are completely unlocked for free. Due to the store not carrying Hats in the Nintendo Switch version of “Among Us”, the MIRA HQ and Polus hats can never be obtained in the system. Although initially released with little popular attention, Among Us received a high rate of popularity in 2020 due to many Twitch streamers and YouTubers playing it. In response to the game’s popularity, a sequel, Among Us 2, was publicly revealed in August 2020. However, it was later canceled on September 23, 2020, when the team shifted focus to the original game. All in all, Among Us was well received by video game sites as their low price and fun were praised, but the crew players received criticism. The mobile version, despite being free, received criticism regarding stability and advertisements.

Among Us Hats: Learn How To Download (Plus Interesting Things About The Game)

On Among Us, various customization options for aspects of the game, such as vision range and emergency meetings, are available in each game’s lobby. There are also many cosmetic options, including space suit colors, skins, hats, and pets, some of which are paid DLC.

What is Among Us?

Among Us is an online video game, group game and survival, developed and published by the American game studio InnerSloth. It was released in June 2018 for Android and iOS, in November 2018 for Microsoft Windows, in December 2020 for Nintendo Switch, and in December 2021 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Among Us follows a space-themed setting, where each gamer plays one of two roles – crew or predetermined number being imposters. The crew’s job is to identify the imposters and/or complete the surrounding tasks on the map, while the imposters’ objective is to eliminate the crew. Suspicious Among Us players are eliminated through a vote, which is initiated when an emergency meeting is called or when a dead body is reported. Crew members win if all Imposters are eliminated or if all tasks are completed. Imposters win if they are equal in number to the crew, or if a critical sabotage is not resolved.

Features of Among Us:

  • Win the game by completing each task successfully to develop your space shuttle. Or you can filter out all impostors and kick them out of the game.
  • Traitors can sabotage your plans at any time, so players must react as quickly as possible.
  • The admin map and cameras will help you keep an eye on all team members. Be sure to stay alert at all times for any signs of a potential deserter.
  • When the dead bodies start to appear, immediately contact the other players. Discuss any evidence and try to find out who the imposters are as soon as you can.
  • That said, these meetings can also be held to discuss any suspicious activity or behavior from other players.
  • When you have a verdict, you can vote to expel any suspect. But make sure you make the right decision when choosing who stays and who goes.

How To Download Among Us Hats:

It is easy to get all the hats for Among Us which are thematic accessories to customize the clothing of the characters you play with, giving them a touch of glamor. To download, you have to follow a series of very specific steps that are easy and quick to apply.

Right now there are several hat themes, Halloween and Christmas are the most famous. These are very close dates in time and when they arrive, the gallery of said hats will be activated, however, we can “trick” the game to have them as soon as possible. Halloween is celebrated on October 31, while Christmas takes place on December 25 – so having these custom hats is possible with a very simple little trick as you will see below, although you can also have access to other hats.

Download with a date change:

To activate Among Us hats from the computer, it would be enough to change the date of your PC. Simply do the following:

If you are playing Among Us, please close the game.

Then go to change only the date of your Windows computer, you will have to put it in 10/31/2019 – it is important that you put this exact date. Now enter the game again and the Halloween hats should appear, you will find them when creating a game, clicking on the computer and the “hats” section.

To get the Christmas ones, do the same thing, close the game, but this time put the date 12/31/2019, then enter again and you will have other hat kits for your Among Us character.

Finally, put the correct date back on your computer and you will see that the hats will remain available when you enter the game.

In this way you will be able to have at your disposal all the hats available to date, both those that offer Christmas themes and those for Halloween, therefore, you will be able to put the one you want on your Among Us character when you go to play with your friends.

Buy Among US DLCs:

Another option if the previous option to change the date does not work for you is to buy Among US DLCs or downloadable content from Steam VR. DLC are skin packs and other options for this particular game, although there are DLCs for many other games.

This additional content is not free, specifically, each US DLC costs between $1.74 or €1.59 and $2.83 or €2.59, but Steam offers the possibility of buying them all together for only €13.49 ($14.73), which is a 35% discount if you buy them separately.

There are 9 DLCs available, one that offers a variety of hats for your Among US characters is Among Us – Airship Skins, in total 13 new hats, although there are some more. It’s up to you if you like them and want to buy them to add them to the game.

Interesting Facts About The Among Us Game:

Very high sales, 10 million downloads:

Steam Spy has calculated that, as of September 2020, the game has been downloaded by 10 million people on Steam. As of October 2020, the game, according to the Associated Press, has become the most downloaded game on the iOS App Store. According to SuperData Research, the game has reached 500 million players worldwide as of November 2020, with 97% comprising the free mobile version, although 64% of the game’s growth in popularity has been generated by the version for PC. Among Us was considered one of the best-selling games on Steam, being listed in the “Top 100 of the Year” category. The Nintendo Switch version has sold over 3.2 million copies since its release, making it one of the best-selling Nintendo Switch games. While it was offered as a free game on the Epic Games Store, Among Us had gained over 2 million players.

The initial explosion in popularity came from YouTube and the pandemic:

YouTubers and streamers like PewDiePie play Among Us and by 2020, a wave of popularity from online content creators started in South Korea and Brazil and ended up reaching the English-speaking world.

Designer and artist Marcus Bromander stated that Mexico, Brazil, and South Korea are even more popular locations for the game than the United States. According to composer and programmer Forest Willard, Twitch streamer Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris made the game popular on the site in July 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic was also cited as a reason for Among Us’ popularity, as it promoted socializing despite social distancing measures. In addition, Emma Kent of Eurogamer believes that the release of The Henry Stickmin Collection by InnerSloth also contributed to the popularity of Among Us, and Wes Fenlon of PC Gamer said that streamer SR_Kaif “prepared [the game] for your big moment”.

After that, many other Twitch streamers and YouTubers started playing Among Us, such as DisguisedToast, CallMeCarson, xQc, Pokimane, Shroud, Ninja, andPewDiePie. Since then, the consecutive player count has skyrocketed, reaching 1.5 million and by September 2020, it has received another 100 million downloads. In reference to the game’s popularity among streamers, Evelyn Lau of The National stated that “Watching the reactions of people trying to guess who the imposter is (and sometimes getting it wrong) or lying terribly about not being the imposter is all a lot of fun. “According to Wired magazine, Among Us, along with Jackbox Party Packs and Fall Guys, was regarded as one of the games that provided a free narrative experience to avoid the “cultural trauma” of the pandemic.

Among Us had a second wave of popularity: meme success

The game’s popularity continued in the following months. YouTube reported that videos about the game had been viewed 4 billion times as of September 2020, and TikTok videos related to Among Us had over 13 billion views as of October 2020. The game’s sudden surge in players overloaded its server, which Willard said was “at the time … a completely free Amazon server, and it was terrible”, which forced him to work in a time of crisis to fix the bugs.

During this time, InnerSloth also opened an Among Us-themed merchandise store. The popularity also inspired a lot of fanart and memes, also leading to the creation of in-game personas, called “Crewsonas” (an amalgamation of crewmate and persona). Composer and programmer Willard said that fan-created content “really is the best part” of making Among Us, with designer and artist Bromander calling it “my favorite thing to see”.

Most importantly in pop culture today, Among Us popularized the slang “sus”, meaning “suspect”.

Among Us has often been compared to Fall Guys, as both became popular party games during the COVID-19 pandemic, and also because both developers of the two games got along on Twitter. Comparisons were also made to avatars from both games, where many felt they looked like jelly beans. Comparisons have also been made to The Thing, Werewolves Within, Town of Salem, and Secret Hitler.

Controversy and criticism:

Among Us was controversially played by the US Army esports team, in which players on the broadcast used in-game names referencing the “N word” and the bombing of Nagasaki, considered “offensive” and “intolerable” by some viewers. Two US congresswomen, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, streamed the game in October 2020 alongside several other prominent streamers such as Pokimane and Hasan Piker as a way to encourage people to vote, which attracted nearly seven hundred thousand concurrent viewers on Twitch.

Football and exams:

In Brazil, footballer Neymar and a fellow Brazilian Youtuber named Alanzoka broadcast Among Us live, and the pair reached over 100,000 viewers. Following this, an Among Us meme appeared in question 81 in a test carried out by FUVEST on January 10, 2021 in the country of Brazil. Among Us was also so popular for children that during another test, this time a chemistry question, the participant was to find the “imposter element” according to its characteristics.

Multiplayer matches with up to fifteen players was uploaded later:

One of the attractions of Among Us is that you can play both on a local network and in fun multiplayer games over the Internet. After all, it’s always more fun to play against other human players. And much better if they are your friends, but soon you may discover that they are not as good friends as you thought. Moreover, don’t forget that you’re going to have to convince the other players that you’re not the impostor. Or maybe you are – who knows?

FUN FACT: Initially you could only play online multiplayer matches with up to ten players.

There was a canceled sequel in 2020:

Following the game’s popularity, the Innersloth team decided to instead focus on a sequel, Among Us 2, saying that the codebase for Among Us was “outdated and not built to support the adding of so much new content.” During this time, composer and programmer Willard and the artist of Among Us Mrs Amy Liu continued to update it, increasing the maximum player base, adding four servers, three regions, and larger game codes to allow more concurrent games to be supported. However, in September 2020, the team canceled the sequel, opting to support the original game and add all of the content intended for the sequel, due to the original game’s increased success, which reached 85 million downloads globally.

In a post on the developer’s website regarding the game’s future, the team stated that “this is probably the toughest choice because it means digging deep into the game’s core code and reworking various parts of it”. The idea is to rework the game’s core code to allow for the new content. In the meantime, plans have been announced to fix the game’s server issues; in addition, add color blindness support, a buddy system, and a new map based on the Henry Stickmin series, which Bromander is the creator of.

The Innersloth team announced their plans to fix several of the game’s server bugs and to ban hackers and toxic gamers, for example in the beta version of Among Us on Steam, symbols were added in the task of fixing the wiring as a support for color blind people.

Other plans also include improved gameplay for ghosts and the addition of more customizable options. Soon after, a full remaster of the game’s art style was announced, with games supporting up to 15 gamers, six new colors, and a new meeting screen and revamp of the game’s design, were released during the game’s 3rd anniversary on June 15, 2021.

“The Airship” was a true enhancement:

On August 8, 2019, InnerSloth released a new map, Mira HQ, whose development was announced following the enhancement of map filters in the first update of 2019. A third map, Polus, was added on November 12, 2019. Both maps initially required an additional payment of four dollars, but their prices were reduced to two dollars on January 6, 2020, and later became free on June 11, 2020; although the maps are still available for download for purchase on all platforms, they no longer provide access to maps; instead, they only provide the player with the skins that came with the maps.

A fourth map, titled “The Airship”, was released on March 31, 2021 and is based on a location in the Henry Stickmin series.

First announced At The Game Awards 2020, “The Airship”, was unveiled, and it was set on the Toppat Clan airship from the Henry Stickmin series, containing new rooms and new tasks. The Among Us developers named Innersloth also announced that the map would be free for all gamers. It was also released along with a cosmetics pack that can be purchased on Steam. Also enhanced, along with the map, is the account system, which allows gamers to report hackers and toxic gamers to make the game a safer place.

According to Willard, the team kept the game “much longer than we probably should have from a purely business standpoint”, putting out regular game updates once a week. This led to a steady increase in players, creating a snowball effect towards the player base. Bromander stated that their ability to do this is due to the fact that they have enough savings, which allows them to continue working on the game even when it isn’t selling very well

Before “the Airship”, quick chat was added:

The new function released on March 5, 2021, allowed gamers to communicate quickly, through a dialogue wheel, which brought constantly used conversation options, such as statements and accusations to other team members. Initially, with the addition of the new tool, gamers under 18 were limited to using only quick chat for communication, unlike gamers over 18, who can use both quick chat and free chat. However, the developers have announced that they intend to decrease the restriction to ages 13+.

During the month of May, a new color was announced for the game, called Rosé, which also came along with five other colors: Cream (formerly removed from the game), Coral, Banana, Gray, and Burgundy, which were later announced in Summer. Game Fest 2021, event held on June 10, 2021, along with other new content: a fifth map, hide and seek, new roles: Sheriff and Scientist. The new colors, along with support for up to 15 gamers, a new meeting screen, and a new character art style, were released on June 15, 2021, during the game’s third anniversary.

The infamous “Eris Loris” hack affected 5 million players globally:

In mid-October 2020, a hacker known as “Eris Loris” started affecting mainly North American servers. Several players reported on Twitter that the hacker hacked into their matches and spammed matches promoting their YouTube channel, Discord server, and controversial political messages, threatening to hack players’ devices if they declined the offer. The Discord server was revealed to contain large amounts of NSFW content, such as racist language, pornography, and images containing animal abuse.

A report by Eurogamer showed an interview with the alleged hacker, contacted through some of the Discord server links provided in one of the matches. It was revealed that Loris managed to develop the bot responsible for the attacks in just six hours, and that he had 50 volunteers to form a botnet to propagate the attacks to other matches. He also noted that the attacks also served as a publicity campaign to encourage players to vote for Donald Trump in the 2020 US presidential election, as he supports Trump In total, the attacks affected 5 million players and 1.5 million matches worldwide.

Innersloth stated on Twitter that they were “super aware” of the issue and were planning an emergency update to contain the hacks, as well as encouraging all players to play private matches only. The bug has been resolved, however, in January 2021, several players reported the possible return of Eris Loris, who is promoting hacks and cheats for the game.
